Arin Ilejay "The Salt and Light"

ARIN ILEJAY. Who's this lucky guy?
Matt and Zacky About Arin "The Kid" Ilejay

"No; I didn’t know who he was. We talked to our producer—Mike Elizondo—and we talked to Mike Fasano who was Jimmy’s in-studio drum tech and we said, “Hey, do you guys have anyone you could suggest?” And they both sent somebody down and we went and jammed with ‘em both and they were both great and Arin came in and just killed it. That was the first time I’d ever heard of him or seen him or met him and he came in and he was super skinny and small and he hits the drums like a beast. And it was like, “Whoa.” We were all kind of smiling like, “Wow, this kid’s got every chop down. Not only has he played everything right but he’s also transcribed everything right.” Which is good to us because you have to have an ear—you have to be able to hear what people are doing. He played everything Portnoy and Jimmy were playing to a tee. And we were like, “Wow.” So we had a couple more sessions with him and he was just the perfect fit right off the bat—he just really blew us away and impressed us. "

"We want a kid that nobody knows, that no one has heard of, that rips at the drums. Someone whose gonna take nothing for granted and be super excited and build his own legacy the way that we have. When Arin walked in he was shy. He sat down at the drums and he was like the John Bonham of metal. He hit the drums so hard and like the nerves they made him better and he was just slaying it. We had a smile on our faces. We were like his kids pretty awesome. We rehearsed with him. He learned everything. He started out on a much smaller drum kit making no money at a crappy job. We said; "Hey you want to do this?" His eyes lit up and like I said its  giving somebody a chance to start with nothing and build a legacy the way that we have. We came from nothing, it was based on friendship, No ego, none of that. Its just about the music, the fans. It's really exciting for us to give someone an opportunity like that. I think its like a dream come true for them. You know there's all of these studio drummers out there who can do that but we just wanted to have something real."

Arin about Avenged Sevenfold

I’m a kid from nowhere who used to be in a hardcore band, and last week I found myself playing at Rock In Rio to 145,000 people. I’ve never experienced anything like this before; the guys have let me into this huge, crazy world, and I want to make everyone proud.” RockSound.com

Ok, the most important thing for me about Arin is the fact that he's  the only christian in the band, though M. Shadow started singing as a church choir. Somehow i thought that this kid would be the salt and light of the band. And i was really comfortable with that fact.

So, go ahead Arin. Much love come to you. I'll always keep you in my pray. Somehow and somewhere i'll go get you. Keep on rock and roll!!!
